LATEST NEWS!

If you need a bass player for live performance or recording, please feel free to contact me by clicking on this link!

Please note that the Phil/Genesis concert on March 24 will be our last show for the next few months. But, we hope to be back in August! (One of our band members will be convalescing.)

We've booked some additional Second Hand Newz shows, which I'll post in a few days.

On the recording front, I'm nearly done laying down bass tracks for the upcoming Christopher Todd Davis album. Every song has a hook that will stick in your head after 1-2 listenings. I'll post the album release details asap!

ABOUT DAVE SALWITZ

Please check out my audio and video pages (menu at top) for examples of music I've played live and recorded. If you like what you hear and need a bassist, please feel free to contact me at the link above.

I've been playing bass since 1974. Before bass, it was acoustic guitar, rhythm guitar, and violin!

I started out my bass career playing rock and progressive rock. In 1977 I co-founded the progressive rock cover band, Mantis. The only other tribute band that I was aware of at the time was Randy Hansen (Jimi)! We also did the various rock covers from the day such as Boston, Aerosmith, Joe Walsh, Styx, Kansas, Led Zeppelin, Jeff Beck, The Kinks, and so many more.

Like my previous couple of bands, we played venues such as Lake Hills Roller Rink in Bellevue, WA and numerous colleges and high schools in Washington. In 1978, Mantis morphed into an original progressive rock act. One of our biggest shows was at the Seattle Concert Theater that used to be across the street from 13 Coins in Seattle. All of Mantis' original music was written by Roger Halvorson, Dave Bartley, and Janet Johnson (RIP).

Other bands I've played in include Stubborn Puppet, FireMonkey, American Fool, Petty Thief, Indigo Soul, and The Grand Delusion.

I'm a collaborative player with an eye on the best tone and playing approach for the music. I feel that the right bassist and the right bass part will elevate everyone else's performance. I don't play a lot of notes, unless it's actually necessary (e.g., progressive rock). As such, I love to be melodic but am equally at home playing simple grooves with just a few notes. I also lock in quickly with drummers, which is a big time saver. When I arrive, I'm always prepared to play. I don't like to waste anyone's time.  :)

In terms of genre, I can play pop, rock, blues, gospel, country and the odd bit of jazz once in a while.

I regularly play live in the Seattle area and am also interested touring and traveling to recording studios or live shows wherever they may be. Feel free to contact me using the link at the top of this page!

I look forward to playing for you, whether you're an artist looking for a bassist, or an audience member, or both.
